The Internet's Top Rated Web Site for Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy

AsherMeadow is a trademark of American Marvels Company.

Named for effort of two pioneering people, Richard Asher and Roy Meadow, our name represents where we came from, and what we aim to do.

In 1951, Richard Asher was the first to describe a pattern of self-abuse, where individuals fabricated histories of illness. Remembering Baron von Munchausen, Asher named this condition Munchausen's Syndrome.

In 1977, the English pediatrician Roy Meadow described a form of child abuse in which mothers deliberately induced or falsely reported illnesses in their children. He referred to this behavior as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

While recovery is a critical part of what this site hopes to prosper, our primary goal is education, and through that, prevention.

Originally called The Asher-Meadow Center for Education & Prevention of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, the web site and accompanied organization was renamed in October 1999 to simply AsherMeadow™.
